Yesterday we had a wonderful time with family and friends celebrating our baby boy’s second birthday. We had a mini-celebration at my dad’s house in Pennsylvania last weekend, but this one was more for Kevin’s family and our friends here in Virginia (and all his little toddler friends too!).
This year we decided to have the party at a local park rather than at our house. We rented a covered pavilion that had grills and a toddler playground next to it. The theme for the party was basically “Things That Go,” since he’s obsessed with all things transportation- planes, cars, trains, helicopters, motorcycles, boats, you name it!
I tried to keep it simpler and smaller than last year and didn’t make all the food myself. I accepted help from family and friends and we did some store-bought food mixed with homemade. I did make the cupcakes which turned out great, if I do say so myself!
We ended up lucking out with amazing weather- perfect for a late summer BBQ at the park. The kids had a great time playing on the playground and in the field. I also had some trains, coloring books, play dough and bubbles that they could play with under the shade of the pavilion, because it did get pretty warm!
Kevin discovered his big gift from Mommy and Daddy within about 5 minutes of arriving at the party. We tried to hide it behind some tables but he outsmarted us and was so excited that we had to give it to him right then.
We played two “games” which included a piñata with convenient pull strings on it (much more toddler friendly!) and “Pin the Smokestack on Thomas.” Both were very entertaining!
Currently Kevin’s favorite song is the Happy Birthday song, so he was loving the attention he got when it was time to blow out the candles.
I made him his own extra large cupcake. He didn’t know what to think of it at first, but once he tasted that icing he was sold!
Finally, our spoiled little boy opened all of his presents. He was very lucky to receive a ton of great things!
After the presents he decided he had enough fun for one day, and rode off into the sunset in his new car… 🙂
It was a wonderful way to celebrate our boy’s second year of life. I can’t believe how quickly time is passing. We love you so much Kevin!
