My Current Favorite Running Songs

runningsongs

When I first started running I always ran with music. It was a necessity to me at the time and I grew very dependent on it. I couldn’t imagine running without it, and I actually wouldn’t if my iPod was dead. When I realized how much I NEEDED music I didn’t like it. I felt that in order for me to progress and move forward as a runner, I needed to learn how to run without music helping me along the way. So I started to wean myself off, eventually getting to the point where I didn’t run with music at all. As a result, I discovered how to enjoy my surroundings and listen to my body rather than relying so heavily on something external like fast-paced songs.

I’ve come a long way as a runner since then and do run with music again sometimes now. It’s not every time, but I do believe there is a time and place for it. The two times I like to listen to music while running are when I’m on the treadmill and occasionally on long runs when I need some extra motivation or something to break up the monotony. When I do listen, I LOVE fast, high-energy songs and sometimes songs that are slower but build-up in intensity.

I just finished running 16 miles, and for most of the run I listened to this playlist that I am loving. It contains 26 songs, perfect motivation for marathon training. Most of the songs are popular on the radio right now, with some extras thrown in there. Since I enjoyed it so much I wanted to share it in case anyone is looking for some new music to add to their playlists.

Here it is!
